{"id":1817,"date":"2020-02-26T03:19:37","date_gmt":"2020-02-26T03:19:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.dislit2020.chris-foss.net\/blog\/?p=1817"},"modified":"2020-02-26T03:19:37","modified_gmt":"2020-02-26T03:19:37","slug":"s-e-e-d-event-on-neurodiversity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.dislit2020.chris-foss.net\/blog\/uncategorized\/s-e-e-d-event-on-neurodiversity\/","title":{"rendered":"S.E.E.D Event on Neurodiversity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">           On Monday February 24 I attended the Dialogues on neurodiversity: a roundable discussion fashioned by UMW\u2019s S.E.E.D.\u00a0 Lu and I believe Jessica did a wonderful job with the event.\u00a0 The guest speaker was the one and only Dr. Foss, which he did a wonderful job delivering the information.\u00a0 There was pizza and water provided by the club, which was very generous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Dr. Foss discussed mental health and how there is more\nthan meets the eye, as the flyer states \u201clearn about what doesn\u2019t get discussed.\u201d\u00a0 Dr. Foss also discusses Intersectionality,\nwhich displayed that disability isn\u2019t just one label it is a wide spectrum and\nhow we should broaden our views.\u00a0 The\ntopics addressed were topics that we have been discussing in class this\nsemester.\u00a0 Dr. Foss even referenced some\nof the essay\u2019s we have been reading, which was nice to relate to.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Each table had a S.E.E.D member, my table had Lu to lead\nus in discussion based on what we heard.\u00a0\nThe first few questions were about disability and how we have seen it portrayed\nin life as well as life at UMW.\u00a0 My table\nhad a pretty good discussion about how disability is portrayed in movies and tv.\u00a0 We brought up a show \u201ceverything is going to\nbe ok,\u201d which the disabled character is a young woman.\u00a0 We discussed that it is nice to see a different\ntype of character portrayed as disabled because it is usually white men.
